Edmund Optics®, a leading global manufacturer and provider of optical components, is part of a new collaboration to drive economic and technological advancements in photonics. This consortium has been awarded a grant from the US National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovative Engines, or NSF engines, program which is the foundation for the Advancing Photonics Technologies group aimed to advance research and development of light-based, photonics innovations as well as build up the region’s technological workforce.
"New Jersey has always been an epicenter for photonics development and Edmund Optics historically been a big supporter and creator of opportunities in the region," says Greg Hollows, Vice President of Product Strategy and New Product Development at Edmund Optics and Senior Partner and Collaborator of the Advancing Photonics Technologies group. "The company, and myself, are very excited to join the many industry and higher education partners focusing on these activities to further the impact of photonics in the region."
The Advancing Photonics Technologies collaboration will look to leverage these grant dollars to provide recognition for the industry and visibility to the many careers and opportunities within it. In addition, Edmund Optics is hopeful that this grant will provide the needed funding to develop and maintain photonics-based curriculums needed to produce diverse, qualified candidates who can pave the path for the future of the photonics industry.
