Collaborative Product Design: Athermal Imaging Lenses
+
Ruda Optical has deep knowledge and experience in athermalized optical designs. Leveraging their expertise, and Edmund Optics experience in imaging lens ruggedization, Edmund Optics and Ruda Optical collaboratively designed a family of Athermal Imaging Lenses designed to maintain high resolution over a wide temperature range and ruggedized for shock and vibration environments.
The products are co-branded, manufactured and assembled at Edmund Optics’ facilities, and then sold through the Edmund Optics catalog. Drawing on extensive experience in bringing products to market, Edmund Optics launched a marketing campaign specific to athermal imaging which included an application note on passive athermalization, a three minute “Trending in Optics” video segment, and social media content.
The lenses have been selling successfully since their launch and have received two awards to date – the 2022 Silver innovators Award by Vision Systems Design and the 2022 Inspect Award.
Collaborative Product & Services: Camera Calibration
+
Quartus Engineering has developed a patent-pending camera calibration architecture called PixelTraq that produces accurate, robust and fully traceable calibrations for single cameras and multi-sensor instruments. High precision geometric and depth measurements are critical for application such as 3D inspection, autonomous robotics, and medical imaging.
Edmund Optics carries inventory of a broad selection of cameras and imaging lenses and can support the selection of necessary hardware for any given application. Joining these capabilities together, customers can now purchase a machine vision camera and lens pair from Edmund Optics, choose to add the PixelTraq calibration service, and receive their camera assembled, focused and calibrated. To learn more about the camera calibration process, see our application note.
A joint demo of the PixelTraq calibration process was also developed for tradeshows, with Quartus employees available directly in the Edmund Optics booth.
Collaborative Defense Contract Bid
+
optX Imaging Systems specializes in state-of-the-art optics and camera solutions for defense customers and applications.
Edmund Optics and optX codesigned a compact imaging lens for early prototypes of a headset being developed by for the United States Army that will improve soldiers' situational awareness and decision making.
Nearly 2,000 units were successfully built at Edmund Optics and implemented in the prototype units.
Collaborative Product Development: Optiquiver
+
Quartus Engineering has developed the Optiquiver, an innovative and versatile metrology instrument. Edmund Optics was given the opportunity to test and evaluate the Optiquiver in the Advanced Assembly facility in Tucson, AZ. There, the Integration & Test Team utilized the instrument across a range of metrology and integration tasks, delivering detailed feedback on its performance. Following successful evaluation, Edmund Optics purchased the Optiquiver and incorporated it multiple assembly workflows. Edmund Optics continue to collaborate with Quartus Engineering, providing ongoing feedback and receiving product updates to enhance functionality.
Complementary Supply Chain: Scaling Partner
+
Ruda Optical excels in complex optical design, assembly, and alignment tasks, often for highly specialized applications that may only require a low volume of assemblies for proof of concept or prototype applications.
Edmund Optics has the capacity to scale optical component manufacturing from prototype to production quantities.
On multiple projects, Edmund Optics has referred low volume business to Ruda Optical and Ruda Optical has utilized Edmund Optics as their volume manufacturing partner when needed.
Through this complementary arrangement, Edmund Optics has supplied thousands of off the shelf and custom optical components to Ruda Optical to allow them to better serve their customers throughout their project lifetimes.
